My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion

After a 4 (4?!) year absence, the Flaming Lips are set to release their highly anticipated follow up to 2002's acclaimed Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robot. The band has given fans a few hints here and there throughout the previous months as to what the aim for the new album may be, name dropping Black Sabbath and Sly and the Family Stone. Here's what Wayne Coyne has to say about what inspired it:

Frontman WAYNE COYNE reveals, "I guess we've found it hard not to get a little frustrated with America.

"There's this fundamentalist, right wing Christian president and you can only stand there so long and be tolerant. Sometimes you just want to say, 'Jeez, you people are retarded.' I don't want people to think of us as Zen masters sitting up on the mountain not understanding what's going on."

ohh! fight! fight! The new album, cleverly named At War With the Mystics, is set to drop April 4th, or if you enjoy the fruits of illegal downloads, months ago. But for those who still fear the left hand of the RIAA, here's a few songs off of the album (requires macromedia flash player):

The Flaming Lips - The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song
The Flaming Lips - Free Radicals
The Flaming Lips - The W.A.N.D.

my opinion? im for it. the listen is not as easily digestable as their last two albums, but the progressive change might just be for the better. or maybe im wrong. maybe they're the new Genesis.
